Probiotics are responsible for keeping the microbiome (= all the microorganisms in the gut) in balance. The microbiome balance in cats and dogs can be impaired by antibiotics, worming, stress, feeding errors and other factors. The consequences may include diarrhoea, flatulence, loss of appetite and metabolic growth disorders. A poorly functioning intestine can also cause skin and fur problems as well as compromised immune defences. We already know that gut bacteria play a key role in many synthesis processes (e.g. the synthesis of vitamin B) but also play a hugely important role in breaking down many food components. Probiotics in the small intestine can also build up a protective barrier against pathogenic (= disease-causing) germs. Ultimately, the aim must be to minimise the consumption of antibiotics by using probiotics instead and to steer digestion in the right direction. A stable balance of gut flora with trillions of living bacteria guarantees vitality in cats and dogs.

The European Authority has classified this Lactobacillus (limosilactobacillus reuteri) in the ‘zootechnical additives’ category and in the ‘intestinal stabilisers’ group based on extensive scientific studies.
Re-scha® now has more than twenty years of experience in handling lactobacilli. This enables re-scha® to produce Reut-a-sin®in accordance with GMP guidelines. Nothing is left to chance. Each stage of the production process is strictly controlled by the manufacturer. The result is a very high-quality product.

Reut-a-sin® contains a particularly high concentration of this limosilactobacillus reuteri, which also occurs naturally in the intestines of cats and dogs. This is of course an important factor in ensuring that this product works effectively. Even the smallest amounts of Reut-a-sin® can trigger mechanisms into action in the small intestine of cats and dogs.

Limosilactobacillus reuteri demonstrates no resistance to antibiotics, meaning Reut-a-sin® must always be reapplied after antibiotics have been administered. Lactobacilli with antibiotic resistance are not approved for use in the EU.

Reut-a-sin® also places particular emphasis on the use of high-quality additives. Maize starch is used as a carrier for the lactobacilli. This provides a very dry medium. This is one of the key requirements to ensure long-term storage stability. The addition of chicory powder, which contains inulin, significantly accelerates the activation and multiplication of limosilactobacillus reuteri in the small intestine.
Proper storage of the Reut-a-sin® product is also a matter of priority for re-scha® . For example, this product is temporarily stored at re-scha® in a deep-freeze cell at minus 18° Celsius. This ensures that the quality of Reut-a-sin® cannot deteriorate under these standardised storage conditions, even over a long period of time. The lactobacilli therefore remain viable for a very long time. Previous studies on the stability of lactobacilli commissioned by re-scha® from a GMP-certified laboratory have also shown that lactobacilli remain fully viable under deep-freeze conditions for a period in excess of four years.

Use:

Reut-a-sin® can be used in cats and dogs of any age. The dosage amounts specified are only guidelines and may be adjusted slightly upwards or downwards depending on the initial physical condition of the animal (e.g. in the case of severe or mild diarrhoea). It is not possible to overdose the animal with probiotic cultures and this will not have a negative effect on the animal.

Dosage: Reut-a-sin®:

Cat or dog < 5 kg

2 slightly heaped micro measuring spoons*/day, spread over 2 meals

Cat or dog 5 – 10 kg

3 slightly heaped micro measuring spoons*/day, spread over 2 meals

Dog 10 – 25 kg

4 slightly heaped micro measuring spoons*/day, spread over 2 meals

Dog 25 – 50 kg

1/2 macro measuring spoon**/day, spread over 2 meals

Dog > 50 kg

1 level macro measuring spoon**/day, spread over 2 meals

*1 slightly heaped micro measuring spoon, approx. 0.25 g of Reut-a-sin®

**1 level macro measuring spoon, approx. 2.5 g of Reut-a-sin®

Reut-a-sin® should be mixed into the cat or dog food. Dry food can be moistened a little beforehand so that the Reut-a-sin® adheres better.
In acute situations, Reut-a-sin® can be used for several days, or even for 3-4 weeks. It can of course also be administered over a longer period of time. The dose can then be halved.

Please be advised:

‘when deciding to administer Limosilactobacillus reuteri (DSM 32203) and Limosilactobacillus reuteri (DSM 32264) as supplements for a period of more than five weeks, the nutritional characteristics of the supplemented food and diet, the breed of cat or dog and the availability of water should be taken into account to avoid constipation.’

Storage and transportation:

Recommended temporary storage:

Room temperature (+18° Celsius to +22° Celsius); 2 months

Refrigerator temperature (+6° Celsius to +8° Celsius); 6 months

Freezer or deep freezer (-18° Celsius); significantly longer storage possible (see also imprint on packaging and can label)

Reut-a-sin® is stored deep-frozen in our warehouse at -18° Celsius. It is shipped unrefrigerated. This has no negative effect on the number of live lactobacilli. When the product arrives, we recommend placing it in the refrigerator at between roughly 6° Celsius and 8° Celsius, or even better in the freezer at -18° Celsius. Unrefrigerated transport should not take longer than one week if the outdoor temperature is ≥ 30° Celsius.

Composition:

Maize starch, chicory inulin powder, calcium gluconate.
Zootechnical additives per kg Reut-a-sin®:
Intestinal stabilisers: ≥ 2 x 1012 CFU/kg: DSM 32203 Limosilactobacillus reuteri (4b1850) and DSM 32264 Limosilactobacillus reuteri (4b1851).
This product information should be regarded as a guide to the correct use of the Reut-a-sin® product.
