Frucht-mash – Supplementary feed for ornamental birds and flying pigeons
Frucht-mash is a globally unique and innovative product designed to enhance the vitality and performance of ornamental birds and flying pigeons. Frucht-mash is one of the highest-quality food supplements produced for pets worldwide. Frucht-mash is made with premium fruit powders and other valuable raw materials that meet food standards.
Ingredients:
Sea buckthorn fruit powder: the sea buckthorn berry is known as the “lemon of the north”. It provides ten times as much vitamin C as the lemon. It is also very rich in vitamins (B vitamins, tocopherol, carotenoids), plant sterols and important fatty acids (such as omega-3, omega-6, omega-7 and omega-9 fatty acids). Sea buckthorn berries also contain the bioactive substance lycobin, which strengthens the immune system.
Rose hip fruit powder: Rose hips are among the most vitamin-rich fruits, particularly known for their high vitamin C content. They also provide beta-carotene, B-complex vitamins, vitamin E, vitamin K and vitamin P (rutin). Rose hips also contain above-average levels of essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium and, most notably, potassium. Flavonoids, especially citrine and rutin, are further key components. The various sugars in rose hips are an ideal food source for lactobacilli (lactic acid bacteria).
Forest fruit powder (including blueberry, raspberry and blackberry fruit powder): contains high doses of bioflavonoids, which are particularly rich in folic acid and have a high mineral content (especially magnesium and iron for haematosis). The colourants (anthocyanins) in blueberries inhibit the enzyme lipoxygenase, which is active in inflammatory processes.
Tropical fruit powder (including pineapple, mango, apricot, strawberry, papaya and peach): is also rich in vital substances. The enzymes in pineapple help relax muscles and relieve muscle cramps. Additionally, these enzymes have a positive effect on the digestion of protein and fat.
Maca: Maca is a root tuber native to the Peruvian Andes and has long been an integral part of Peruvian culture. Valued as both a food and a natural elixir, maca is rich in essential nutrients. The ground tuber provides a range of amino acids, including leucine, arginine, phenylalanine, glycine, histidine, tyrosine, and methionine, as well as important minerals such as calcium, iron, copper, zinc, and potassium. Maca also contains secondary plant compounds. These are bioactive substances that the maca tuber itself does not require but which offer significant health benefits for both animals and humans. The maca tuber is also said to have an aphrodisiac effect. Maca is high in fibre, which is essential for a healthy microbiome (= total number of microorganisms) in the intestine.
Special yeasts: with a relatively high nucleotide content. These components play an important role in cell division, tissue growth and immune system support. They are indispensable for energy and protein metabolism and are particularly needed during periods of intensive cell division (e.g. breeding phase or travelling in flying pigeon sports). Providing nucleotides through the diet enhances energy efficiency and strengthens the body’s overall resilience.
Application and feeding recommendation:
Ornamental birds: in nature, ornamental birds have access to a wide variety of fruits, which are essential for maintaining a high metabolism, strengthening the immune system, and enhancing the colour and shine of their plumage. Fruits are particularly important for birds in the autumn,as their rich nutritional profile helps birds build reserves for the cold, low-nutrient winter months. Frucht-mash offers the birds a variety of fruits throughout the year, which are otherwise often only available seasonally.
Frucht-mash is particularly important in stress phases, i.e. in times of increased cell division (preparation for breeding, rearing of chicks and moulting).
The dosage instructions are to be understood as guidelines. The dosage can be adjusted individually by the owner depending on the species and fitness level of the bird concerned.
Grain, soft and germ feeds: approx. 1-2 measuring spoons Frucht-mash/kg feed.
Rearing feed: approx. 4-5 measuring spoons/kg feed.
Frucht-Mash plays a particularly important role in hand-rearing. A common problem in this process is that feed particles are not digested properly in the bird’s crop, which can lead to blockage.Experienced bird breeders have discovered that adding 3%–5% Frucht-mash to hand-rearing feed can effectively prevent and resolve these blockages. Moreover, Frucht-Mash enhances the digestion of the food mash, allowing for a slight increase in the amount of hand-rearing feed per bird. This improved digestion can, in turn, support better growth and development in young birds.
Flying pigeons: today they are “powerhouses” that react very sensitively to external influences. Respiratory issues or a weakened immune system (see also “young pigeon disease”) are reliable indicators of a disturbed protein and energy metabolism. In such cases, the natural micronutrients found in Frucht-mash can restore balance to an otherwise one-sided diet. All the natural elements in Frucht-mash such as vitamins, enzymes, bioflavonoids and a rich spectrum of essential minerals can naturally support muscle growth in pigeons. This aspect is particularly important for racing pigeons.
The dosage recommendations in this area are general guidelines. Owners can make individual adjustments based on the bird’s fitness, vitality, and specific needs, particularly during racing periods.
The effect of Frucht-mash is often underestimated. Therefore, my advice when travelling is to start feeding with Frucht-mash at the beginning of the 300 km distance only – with half the dosage. It should also be noted that only half the Frucht-mash dosage (1 measuring spoon/kg feed) should be administered for tailwind flights, while the full dosage (2 measuring spoons/kg feed) can be administered for headwind flights and longer distances (especially for overnight or long-distance flights).
- Breeding: 1 measuring spoon of Frucht-mash/kg grain feed.
- Travelling (see also “Travel plan” here): 1-2 measuring spoons Frucht-mash/kg feed.
- Moulting: 1 measuring spoon of Frucht-mash/kg grain feed.
When administered via the grain feed, the combination with re-scha® Fru-tin-fluid® is of course ideal, as it can permanently bind the Frucht-mash to the grain feed when it hardens.
I would also like to point out that the individual high-fibre components of the Frucht-mash can also have a decisive influence on the multiplication rate of lactobacilli (i.e. good-natured intestinal flora) in the small intestine. As we can see, we have now come full circle.
